About

BAD DAY

Hangover kit delivered straight to your home.

Project Summary

BAD DAY started as an AV robot delivery service for a class project but was soon switched into a delivery service with drivers. By switching the service to have real drivers, it allows BAD DAY to think of its potential in the real world.

Define the Problem &
Why Does It Matter?

When people consume alcohol, many wake up the next morning with a hangover. They do not have easy and quick access to the necessities to aid and speed up their recovery process. Studies have shown that some of the symptoms of a hangover include nausea, fatigue, headaches, rapid heartbeat, and or decreased ability to concentrate.1 These symptoms can impair drivers to different extents. Driving can become dangerous, therefore, the can’t/shouldn’t drive.2

Research Takeaways &
Pain Points

  • Unprepared—People feel unprepared the next morning after a night out
  • Information Overload—People feel overloaded with information about hangovers and what can help ease their recovery

Hangover Research

1Based on class conducted survey Spring 2022. 31 people surveyed

Target Audience

Based on research, it’s common for people to have symptoms ranging from headaches, nausea, to dehydration. People also do not prepare for hangovers and end up driving to get remedies while possibly still hungover. The target audience is based on people who are looking for convience and hangover relief while in the comfort of their home.

Brand Personas

Competitive Analysis

  • In 2020, Postmates, a delivery service, partnered with Vita Coco, a popular coconut water drink, to deliver a “hangover remedy kit” on New Years Day January 1st, 2021. The kits were a “while supply last” kind of deal, and they were all gone within 30 minutes.
  • Etsy and Amazon also sell hangover kits, but they are inaccessible because they need to be ordered days in advance. Bad Day would eliminate the shop time and preparation time. It is, also, the only company that also promotes self-care and educating users after a fun night out.
  • A risk could be that Uber Eats starts delivering hangover kits since they already have made a name for themselves and have a following. Or Postmates offers kits year-round.

User Onboarding

When creating an account, the user adds their email, password, chooses their desired delivery address and can add a profile picture to personalize their account.

Meal Selection

On the meal selection page, the user can use a filter to help choose meals based on their hangover symptoms. This can include nausea, stomachache, dehydration, etc. BAD DAY kits can include breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks, supplements, and misc items like water bottles and makeup wipes; all helping with proper self-care after a night.

Meal Details

The user can view the benefits of each item included in their meal. Each item includes benefits helping relieve hangover symptoms. This helps with hangover education and kick starting a better day.

Confirming Cart & Payment

Once deciding on a meal, the user can review their cart and check out using a variety of payment methods.

Tracking BAD DAY kit

After purchasing the customized kit, the user can track the kit from the app. This provides updates on when the kit will be delivered, helping elimate the inconvience of going to the store or out and about when still possibly intoxicated.

The kit can be delievered right away or can be scheduled ahead of time. This gives the user the option to be prepared before going out or send the kit as a gift to a friend after a night out.

Driver’s App Onboarding

BAD DAY is based around delivery drivers similar to what is used for Uber Eats or Favour. When signing up to be a driver, the user will sign up with their name, email and password. They will also be required to upload a picture of their driver’s license and insurance to ensure they are valid to be a delivery driver.

After completing onboarding, the driver will choose how they would like to receive payment and either link their account to their credit card or bank account. They will also choose how often they would like payouts to take place.

The driver profile page includes their picture and a little about them to make their account more personalized.

What I Learned:

BAD DAY began as an AV robot delivery service. After the project was finished, our group pushed the project to explore real-world opportunities. We presented a poster and gave an oral presentation in the TXST Undergraduate Research Conference and won 3rd place in TXST CEO Elevator Pitch competition in Spring 2022. We also submitted the project to TXST New Ventures program, a competitive accelerator program that supports early-stage business ventures from faculty, student, or alumni ideas and innovations. Our project advanced past the first round, but we sadly had to withdraw due to busy schedules with school and jobs. This project allowed us to explore real world opportunities and a chance to work alongside other professionals.

With more time and resources:

If there was more time, I would have loved to have stayed in the New Ventures program and work with the entrepreneurs to explore the idea even more. In the future, I would love to do more design and market research to see the feasibility of a service like this.
